the more you know.

An interesting statistic, in honor of Eating Disorder Awareness Week 2oo9.

Treatment of an eating disorder in the US ranges from $500 per day to $2,000 per day. The average cost for a month of inpatient treatment is $30,000. It is estimated that individuals with eating disorders need anywhere from 3 – 6 months of inpatient care. Health insurance companies for several reasons do not typically cover the cost of treating eating disorders.

And it is BULLSHIT! I hate insurance! Too many ppl get shortchanged, their ed's get fed by thinking "I am ok because my insurance thinks I am", etc etc etc...people need to be advised on how to advocate. A link to post that helps educate on advocating and appealing with insurance (since I spoke to this mother personally and this story really tore my heart out-and well the girl became the premise of my Undergrad thesis) is http://www.annawestinfoundation.org/insurance.htm
Anna lost her battle because BCBS of MN refused to pay. Her parents sued and won and opened the Anna Westin House, now run by The Emily Program Foundation. But her Mom Kitty is INSTRUMENTAL in DC w/ the EDC. Sorry for going on and on...this hit a point w/ me where I am very passionate.
Keep posting Emily. People are hearing you! Love you.
